FundraisingComing soon!!!Hastings Half Marathon 2012It’s that time of year again! Sue Palmer and Simon Bendle have laced up their running trainers and are all set to run the 13.1 miles around hilly Hastings. This is Sue’s 3rd year and Simon’s 1st for us and we have set them an ambitious target of £1000 to raise between them, but we are grateful whatever they raise! Sue has decided that all the money she raises will go towards our Talk & Support service as we need to raise nearly £10,000 for this by the end of September. We are grateful to Simon, who attended our Winter Ball in November and after bidding for and winning the 1 nights stay at the Zanzibar, declared he would run the Hasting Half Marathon for us too! Simon when sober said he would be true to his word and has already been out training hard. Sue had pulled a muscle in her back so it was touch and go, but she has decided that she will do it after all. So good on them both – you certainly won’t catch me doing it again! To sponsor either of them please visit Sue’s or Simon’s pages on everyclick or call the office . Thank you! Winter Ball 2012We have now booked a venue for our 3rd Winter Ball. This year it will be held at the lovely Powder Mills Hotel in Battle. We don’t have details but we can promise a live band, 3 course meal and coffee and an auction so far! Tickets are £40 per person. We don’t mind if you wish to stagger payments so that you don’t have to pay the full cost just before the christmas shopping starts! For more information contact us to book your tickets - or why not book a whole table! Watch this space for further details. Event ideas – but we need your help…Barn DanceGeorge a Trustss of Our had this idea. Would you like to help us organise a barn dance for Jun or July? Quiz NightRoy another Trustee said he would like to hold a quiz night. Would you like to help out or book a table? Open GardenWe are seeking a beautiful garden with good accessibility to hold a fundraising event – can you help? Contact us if you would like to help with the above or come up with another event idea! Thank you.
Past EventsWinchelsea Advent WindowsThank you so much to Cynthia, Anne and Deborah and all the residents of Winchelsea who took part in this year’s Advent Window display, they were so clever and really imaginative. The people who created the windows must have worked so hard because many of them looked professional standard. We even took a group of the Young Carers to look at them on Monday 19th December and we enjoyed trying to guess which song or hymn they were depicting. At the end of December all the donations and map sales were counted and we were presented with a large cheque for £1625 for our Young Carers service – we are very grateful to Cynthia and all the others for the time and hard work , they all did an amazing job! Christmas RaffleOur annual Christmas Prize draw was a success with Lisa Willard won the £250 1st Prize and she even donated £30 back to the charity which was very generous of her, but I guess it is the season of goodwill! Alan Cusden was really pleased to win the large Hamper after buying some tickets at out winter ball, saying he never wins anything - well you have now Alan – Well done! In the end we sold £1957 raffle tickets and had 1050 donated especially to the appeal from Hastings Muffins, Hastings Round Table and the Hastings Welsh Society and a special donation for our Young Carers trip to the Panto from the Eric and Francis Ford Charity Trust who gave £500! Thank you also to Sainsburys’ Bexhill for their hamper and to Hastings Sainsbury’s and Tesco for their vouchers, Flavours of India for a meal for 2, Liz Jefferies for a Walking Workshop, 2nd Nature for a massage, Pasta Pasta, Powdermills Hotel and Leeford Place Hotel for their vouchers and to all our members and committee members for their kind donations and for selling so many tickets. Our members had a lovely 3 course meal at Powdermills and those who prefered and the Young Carers and their families went to the White Rock to see this years panto, Snow White and the seven Dwarfs. After all the fun events we had £124.80 remaining which we will put towards future social events for our Carers, their Cared for people and our lovely volunteers. Winter BallWe had a fantastic night on Friday 18th November at Leeford Place Hotal. The Lucky Ones were brilliant and this year the venue was really lovely and warm! Karen Austin had decorated it in white and lilac drapes with fairy lights in them, which looked really pretty. Fleur de Lynn, Bellhurst Beauties and Balloons for events helped finish the look off with table flower and balloon arrangements, thanks to Martin who collected and delivered the balloons for us. Lots of the guests had their photo taken with 1066 Photography so they had a memory of the night and how great they all looked. We raised £666 from the ticket sales and on the Auction we took £595 so in total we raised £1233.13! Andy Knight did a great job hosting the Auction, the winners were: Champagne Hot air Balloon ride for 2 – Jamie Cosson A nights stay for 2 at Zanzibar International Hotel with a Champagne breakfast – Simon Bendle A signed and framed photograph of a Kingfishertaken near Burwash by Dale Sutton – Sue Palmer A Forever Living Products make-up Consultation with a free Lipstick – Rhiannon Oliver One to one Pilates or Yoga session – Jo Oliver 10 Zumba lessons – Rob Channon A trailing flower arrangement – Kim Clarke Our special thanks to Peter Marshall, Max O’Rourke, 1066 Photography, Alison Purves, Al Corkran, Claire from Paragon Personal Training and Rhiannon from Bellhurst Beauties for all their Auction prizes. We deeply appreciate their support and kindness. Collection DaysThank you to all the Fundraising volunteers who supported us with collection days in 2011. We did very well raising £408.13 at Hastings Sainsbury’s on 2nd & 3rd and £251.62 at Hastings Tesco on the 22nd. Thank you to Liz and Michael who helped collect at Wadhurst, it was our first time here and we did quite well considering the road works raising £151.73! Thank you for all the help collecting this year so far we have been donated £1465.03! We also did really well at Bexhill Sainsbury’s on the 6th & 7th August not only raising £406.81 but also promoting the service to local Carers and recruiting some new volunteers. So in all it was a very successful weekend! Thank you to all the volunteers who helped collect on Saturday 2nd April and to all the customers of ASDA who gave so generously. By the end of the day we had raised £246.74! Charity Clay ShootThank you to everyone who supported this year’s Charity Clay Shoot, in Broad Oak on Sunday July 3rd. We had lots of lovely positive comments about the day and thankfully it was a beautiful summers day. We had over 80 people attend and through their generousity we raised £1613.80! A special thanks must go to Brede Shooting Club, especially David, Gareth, Robin for arranging and setting up and to Shirley and Mike for working so hard all day on the Have-a-go stand. We would also like to thank Nick and Margaret Jeffrey for the use of their land and to our generous sponsors Kingsview Optical, Frymans Feeds (local animal and bird, including pheasant feed suppliers) and Channon’s Country Store, we are very grateful for their support which has allowed us to promote the event more effectively. Remembering YesterdaySarah and her musical friends led a fantastic afternoon of dancing and singing along with the Golden Oldies from the old time musicals and 1920′s-1960′s with a Cream Tea at Leeford Place on Sunday 5th June for all the Carers and their cared for and anyone else who wished to come to Celebrate Carers week. The event which was free for our Carers and their cared for raised £231, thank you to everyone who helped on the day and supplied raffle prizes. Hastings Half MarathonWell done to Sue who managed to do the Hastings Half Marathon in 2 hours and 14 Minutes! On top on this she raised £543.66 which is simply fantasic and hopefully worth all the agony! Frog RaceThank you to Forestheath Engineering Ltd. for being this year’s main sponsor for the Frog Race on March 3rd. Fast Print, Burstow and Hewett, John the cobbler, Astec Computing also sponsored the events races with Hastings Brewery and Sambalanco sponsoring a frog each. Despite a terrible turn out thanks to these wonderful sponsors and to Liam from Fast Print for donating his prize money back, we made £263.60 all for Young Carers. Thank you also to Tom at Venuu for giving us the club for the night and for helping us set it all up – although it turned I out I am better with Power tools then him!!! – Jo Grants 2011-2012Thank you to the following for providing us with Grants this Year: Foreshore Trust £1452 for Computer Help at Home in Hastings and St Leonards Ted Baker Trust £500 for Computer Help at Home in Rye and surrounding areas ESCC £65,000 a year for 3 years (Respite & Befriending Service) ESCC £ 4650 (over 6 months with a possibility of extra funding over 3 years from march 2012 for Young Carers Befriending service) Lloyds TSB Foundation England and Wales £14,000 (£31,000 over 2 years for peer support project and Talk and Support expansion to cover all adult Carers and Young Carers Befriending) Comic Relief £45k over 3 years(2010-2013) for Talk and Support
Our Fundraising Target for 2011/2012We are very fortunate and a majority of the money we need to run our respite service comes from East Sussex County Coucil, but we are now having to become less reliant on this one funding stream. Our total running costs this year are predicted to be £129, 500. In total we need to find an extra £36,500 on top of the Money given by the Local Authorities and grants already obtained over this period. We Still have nearly £15000 to raise before October 2012 – Can you help?
